Secrets of Sum It Up’s Girls Coaches

Girls Lacrosse Coaches having fun at Sum It Up camp

At Sum It Up Lacrosse, our girls lacrosse coaches are gearing up for our summer camp season. They’re currently achieving and excelling in their spring semesters at school and on their lacrosse teams, from the recreational to the college levels.

Traveling Far and Wide

Take Nicole Bendush, she not only was a Sum It Up Lacrosse camper but also a long-time staff member. She recently went on a study abroad trip where she trekked her way through Australia learning about their biology and culture. Another coach, Cailyn Breski, traveled all the way to South Africa to focus on the roots of apartheid and to spend time volunteering. Finally, Anna Fiorini traveled to Belize to study marine life and the conservation of wildlife.

Excelling on the Field

While some of our coaches were traveling, others directed their energy toward the lacrosse field. Teammates Courtney Weisse, Kathryn Giroux, and Lauren Maiorano are having a stellar season at Dartmouth. While Courtney's younger sister Mallory, is excelling as the starting goalkeeper at Northwestern earning rookie of the week March 28th. With the help of our coach Mary Margaret Kenny, Bucknell turned their season around with multiple wins. Villanova may have won the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, however, the women's lacrosse team is doing great with key players like Claire Peck and Maggie O'Neill. Speaking of O'Neill, Maggie’s sister Mary Kate is at Boston College and is doing a great job on draw controls. Our home base for coaches, Drew University, features some of our favorite coaches from the winter and fall: Ali Kreisinger, Cailyn Breski, Anna Fiorini, Morgan Mason, Gionna Marotta, and Theresa Shafron.

At the high school level, many of our coaches are already lighting up the field despite it being early in the season. We have many local coaches playing for Summit (Julia Persche, a Stanford recruit; Maggie Moriarty, a Holy Cross recruit); Kent Place (Kate McAloon, a Bowdoin recruit; Joy Jack; and Lauren Nymake), Chatham (Kristin McDermott), and many volunteers from Madison, Villa Walsh, and Oak Knoll (Deirdre Daly, attending Vanderbilt).

Our talented Swax Lax intern and lacrosse coach Hanna Beattie, was once again an all-conference selection and leading scorer for the women's ice hockey team at Williams College.

We can keep going on and on about our coaches — on and off the field — but you should take a look for yourself.
